Ray Charles song, arranged for SSAA a cappella. Difficulty: hard.
I arranged this for Nigel (the Pleiades guitarist/singer) for his wedding in July 2006. He and Vicki used lyrics from this song in their vows, and they wanted the humming at the start to begin while the vows were still being spoken. The intro was invented with this in mind - it starts with a 2nd alto A, because I was singing 2nd alto, and none of the others were confident about picking a starting note from mid-air, so to speak. I don’t have perfect pitch, but I do have a good memory for pitch, and since I’m also an oboist, A440 is the note I can most easily pluck from nowhere. The pauses are there because each part entered on a specific word in the vows.
