I Was Glad
Cathedral anthem by Parry. Arranged for SSAATB a cappella. Difficulty: hard.
This was commissioned by Dr Liz for her wedding to Andrew in October 2009. When I suggested it, we hadn’t realised that the organist wouldn’t be able to accompany, but Dr Liz had set her heart on it, so I blithely said I’d be able to do an a cappella version, despite us only having six singers (rather than eight singers with accompaniment). It worked brilliantly, and I was very smug when a member of the congregation came up to me afterwards and asked to buy a copy of the arrangement, admitting that he’d heard that we planned to sing “I Was Glad” a cappella and expected us to fail!
